Idaho Gives starts Monday. Every gift supports the next generation of conservationists.

Protecting open spaces in Southeast Idaho means more than conserving land; it also means ensuring there are always people to care for it.

At Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust, we’re committed to fostering the next generation of conservationists. 

One of the most direct ways we do that is through our summer internship program, which provides paid, hands-on opportunities for students and early-career professionals to build skills, gain experience, and step into environmental careers.

“If we’re not giving these (internship) opportunities, how else are we showing people why this kind of work matters and why they should care?” said Eric Pankau, our stewardship manager. “You don’t truly understand how important the work is until you’re boots-on-the-ground doing it and you’re seeing the effects that you can have.”

This Idaho Gives, we’re raising funds to support that work. Every dollar donated — up to $10,000 — will be matched, helping open doors for future conservation leaders.

A huge thank you to longtime supporter Karla Drewsen for making this match possible. As Karla shared:“We have the chance to inspire our youth with knowledge and passion for conservation, empowering them to safeguard the natural wonders they cherish.”

There will also be some powerful matching moments throughout the week:

💚 The first $750 donated will be TRIPLED, thanks to generous donors Karla Drewsen, John O’Connell, and Dave Doran.

💚 At 6 p.m. on May 7, $200 online gifts will be TRIPLED (up to $30,000 statewide through Idaho Gives). Timing matters—giving closer to 6 p.m. helps maximize the match.
