GIFTS OF STOCK
Gift of appreciated stock can save you money and help us conserve more land. By donating appreciated securities, you may avoid paying capital gains on the appreciation.
To make a gift of stock:
- Contact your stockbroker. Your stockbroker can transfer securities directly to the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust.
- Give your stockbroker the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trusts federal tax identification number: 82-6092501.
- Please contact Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust directly at (208) 240-6045, otherwise we won’t know who to credit for your stock gift. Your name won’t be included in the wire transfer from your broker to our broker. Please let us know the name of the stock, the number of shares you’re donating, and the name and address of your stockbroker.

Give a gift of membership for birthdays, Christmas, weddings, or other special occasions. We will send a membership welcome package to the recipient and a receipt to you.
A planned gift is a gift you plan today to make a lasting difference in the future to something that is important to you. Depending on the type of gift, you may receive tax benefits or income from your donation. Planned gifts are key to helping the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust make sure that the conservation we do together will endure.
Planned gifts may be as simple as making the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust a beneficiary of your retirement account, or as complicated as setting up a charitable remainder trust. To make sure your planned gift works for you, please consult your tax advisor before making any planned gift.
Planned gifts can reduce your income taxes, your capital gains taxes, your gift or estate taxes, provide income to you and the people you care about, and help ensure that beautiful places in Southeast Idaho are conserved forever.
Types of planned giving include:
CHARITABLE ROLLOVER
If you are 70 and ½ years old or older, your retirement account manager can make a distribution from your IRA directly to the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust without incurring a tax on the withdrawal.
GIFTS OF RETIREMENT PLANS & IRA’S
You can designate the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust as a beneficiary of all or part of the remainder of your IRA or retirement plan. Distributions of your IRA or retirement plan to your heirs may be subject to income and state taxes. By designating the Land Trust as a beneficiary, 100% of the balance can be used by the Land Trust.
BEQUESTS
You can designate that a percentage of your estate, or a specific dollar amount, be donated to the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust.
GIFTS OF REAL ESTATE
You can deed your home, vacation home, ranch, or condominium to the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust. We accept gifts of land with conservation value to be protected and real estate that can be sold to help us protect land throughout Southeast Idaho. If you are considering a gift of land, please consult with us on the appropriate conservation and sales strategy.
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITIES
CGAs provide guaranteed income for life at a fixed amount and the Land Trust received the balance remaining in the annuity account. The minimum gift is $25,000.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUSTS
CRTs can provide market income for life and transfer the remainder of the asset to Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust. Substantial assets in the range of $250,000 are typically needed to establish a CRT.
BECOME A VOLUNTEER
Our volunteers are the heart, mind, and backbone of the organization. We could not do this important conservation work without their dedication and support to habitat and open space protection.
Though volunteering is hard work, it is also a chance to meet new people and spend time outdoors actively working to protect the treasured landscapes of Southeast Idaho.
BECOME A LAND STEWARD
Land stewards help with conservation easement monitoring, habitat restoration projects, archiving photographs, creating property maps, and conduction species and habitat inventories (training opportunities available).
We are seeking:
- Experience with natural resources and field work in the West
- Commitment to our monitoring program for at least three years
- Between May and October, the ability to commit to one day a week to monitor properties in our service area
- Experience with, or willingness to learn, basic GPS applications to track paths and waypoints
