Built in 1984 by the renowned boat builder Keith Steele, this wood drift boat is a beloved classic for river runners across the western United States. Measuring an impressive 16 feet by 48 inches, it showcases the craftsmanship of its era, constructed from Port Oxford Cedar and Douglas fir.
Originally purchased in 1984 by Pocatello resident and whitewater boatman Bob Grinzafi, this boat was well maintained throughout its life. When not being used to explore the rivers, the boat was carefully stored in a covered garage, ensuring it remained in excellent condition.
In Spring of 2024, Bob generously donated the boat to Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust, allowing a new generation of adventurers the chance to experience its legacy. A dedicated team of local woodworkers and craftsmen, including Rod Anderson, Eric Anderson, Ken Farley, Mike Hysell, and Dave Pacioretty, came together, donating their time and talent to prepare this vessel for auction.
One of the standout features of this restoration is the newly applied, durable fiberglass that seals the bottom of the boat, extends several inches up the sides, and seals under the chines, providing both strength and protection against the elements.
Today, this drift boat is in excellent condition, offering a responsive and smooth ride across the water. It’s designed to handle a variety of river conditions and trips, including whitewater, fishing, or river explorations, making it the perfect choice for both seasoned river runners and newcomers alike.
